TOLLERTON NEWSLETTER

DECEMBER 07  NO.8

Welcome to the Winter Newsletter.

The biggest news of the past few days is that the Post Office is under threat in the village.

There has been one meeting so far with the local Parish councils and the local Post Office representatives to find a way forward and we will be publishing the outcome of that shortly. Another public meeting will be held in the near future, check out the Village News page and notice boards for further information.

In the meantime the York Press have a Stop the Closure Campaign where you can sign their petition.

A piece of good news though...once again Phil won the Village Shop of the Year competition!

Well done to everyone who works in the shop, it is a tremendous achievement.

VILLAGE HALL

Over a couple of weekends several members (and non members too) gave up their time to decorate the hall. We started with the committee room and entrance and then into the main hall behind the bar area.

We think it looks fab! Our next venture will be the kitchen.

On November 17th we held a Fund raiser on behalf of Fundraising for Tollerton for the Ben Sloper fund. This was a tremendous success and we raised £255. It was a great family evening. We plan to make these regular events in the new year to raise funds for the toilet refurbishment.

There is also going to be a Burn's supper on 26th January, where you will be able to sample the great Scottish Haggis! This will be followed by some lively Scottish Dancing. Put the date in your diary now.

Oh, and don't forget that the hall will be open for New Year's Eve. It's the usual format; bring your own food and alcohol for the evening and we will provide the music, juice for the children and of course a glass of bubbly at Midnight. All for £5.00 per family.

The next soup lunches are;         December 21st

                                                 January 18th

None in February as it is the school holidays.

SPORTS AND RECREATION CLUB

A further grant of £7000 from The Local Network Fund has enabled a Basketball area to be added to the facilities on the Playing Field, and a grant of £5000 from The Big Lottery Fund will pay for tree and shrub planting which is scheduled for early next year. Also next year we shall be making a substantial upgrade to the Playing Field entrance and car park making them more attractive and useful.

Bridge continues to be successful, check out the web for further details.

Look out for the Fundraising for Tollerton newsletter through your door.

PARISH COUNCIL

The plans for the affordable housing on Station Road were presented to the Parish council at the last meeing. We rejected them as the whold scheme is not in keeping with the village. However the plans are now at HDC and we await the outcome.

At the meeting on Tuesday 4th December we presented Mr Wilson White with a certificate which entitles him to use the title Lord of the Manor of Tollerton. This was previously held by Captain Brian Harrison whose Father had bought the title many moons ago. Brian has relenquished the title and it was his choice to give it Wilson with whom he has been corresponding for many years. We were delighted to hand it over to Wilson.

Mr Wilson White being presented

At a previous meeting we also presented Mr Frank Wade with a paperweight depicting Tollerton to mark his retirement from the Parish Council. We wish him well.
